Plymouth Boat Club

FAQ

The Boat Club is a new, low cost, low commitment way to get on the water. But we imagine you may have some questions about how this scheme will work. So here's some commonly asked questions to put your mind at ease...

Who is the Club open to?

As long as you're over the age of 25 and have your RYA Level 2 Powerboat qualification, then you can join. If you don't have the RYA qualification, then we'll help you through your course (additional fee may apply) and you can even do the course onboard our boat.

Can I bring my friends, family and children on board?

Absolutely! Our boats can comfortably take up to 5 people. There are adult lifejackets onboard, but you’ll need to provide your own for children.

How much does it cost?

We have two varying types of membership to suit your requirements.

Membership
Use of the Beneteau Barracuda
2 days usage per month
£2,395 per year (inc VAT)

Summer membership
Use of the Beneteau Barracuda
6 month membership April to September inclusive
2 days usage per month£1,995 (inc VAT)

You'll need to pay for the fuel at the end of your day out. To give you an idea of cost, at cruising speed of 25 knots, the Barracuda uses just over a litre per mile.

If you're already a member and you want to use the boat for more than your 2 days per month, you can buy additional days for £100 a time.

How do I book my days onboard?

Once you're a member, we'll give you a link to a calendar where you can see the boat's availability. Then just call us or text us, and we'll reserve the day for you!

You can get onboard from 8.30am and you'll need to return the boat by 5pm. If you'd like to be afloat for the sunrise, or relax into the evening, then come and speak to us and we can make special arrangements for you.

Can I fish?

Absolutely. Fishing is permitted on Quay Barracuda which is perfectly set up for a day's fishing.

What if I breakdown?

At the end of each use, we'll check the boat over and get it ready for use. Therefore, we hope it won't breakdown - but should it, then just give us a call. We'll give you some pointers over the phone, or we'll come out to help you in person.

What kit do I need?

A picnic, plenty of water, warm clothes, sunglasses, fishing rod (perhaps), and your snorkles! We'll provide all the safety equipment including adult lifejackets but you're welcome to use your own if you have them.

Do you offer day charter?

Unfortunately we do not currently offer a day or weekly charter, the use of our boat is only through annual or summer membership. It is possible to arrange a daily or weekly bareboat charter on a 6.5m XS RIB through Plymouth Yacht Haven directly, give them a call on 01752 481190 or visit their website at www.yachthavens.com/yacht-haven-quay-plymouth/boat-club-charter/rib-charter

Where shall we go for our day out?
